Today I received my new camera, a Canon 5D - and took this picture of my roommate Adam.

Meet Sam, Lesley, and their little one - Matilda.
There's just so much to say about this family. Kate grew up with Lesley and I have known them for a while and both of us were very excited when we found out they were having Matilda. All I can say is that we love them and I am very glad I had the great oppurtunity to shoot them while they were in Atlanta.

Meet Michael and Emily

Michael and Emily have been some good friends that I've met thru Kate. They are getting married soon and wanted to get some engagement photos done before the big date! I was happy to do them and really enjoyed spending the afternoon with them!

This one felt almost old timey(is that a word?) to me.

This was the "love tree" (i named it. Pretty clever, eh?) - They were looking for their initials - Unfortunately, no luck - but cute picture!

I told them to try and hold hands around this tree. Not bad.

And last, but not least - I love this one!

Man, i've been slacking. I need to post more often!

Well, yesterday, my good friend and fellow photographer, Cat Norman (www.catnorman.com) went out and shot for as long as we could stand it in the cold. We used just 1 Alien Bee and had some fun. This is my favorite that I took with my camera - I need to get the other images from her camera. Anyways, Enjoy!

I took this one while Cat was walking down the tracks.
It's one of my favorites.

Meet this fun family of 7! I had a blast shooting this beautiful family! Thanks to Matt and Renee for having me!

Meet Fie - The youngest of 5. She loved to clap and play in the leaves. So cute!

This is Izzie. If I had one word for her - it would definitely be PERSONALITY! She had lots of it!

And then there are the 3 boys! Joshua, Blake and Christian. They had a lot of energy!

Meet the Smartt's

This is Stuart and Candace Smartt

About 2 weeks ago, Candace sent me a message about taking some photos of her and Stuart. Of course I was up for the challenge! Capturing Stuart and Candace was a blessing for me. Not only because they've been friends for several years, but because talking to them on that day was an eye opener.

Stuart was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. One of the reasons they wanted pictures is because Stuart starts chemo therapy soon. Although I expected the shoot to be somewhat somber, it was quite the opposite. Stuart's attitude is admirable to say the least. It's inspiring.

I started off the blog with the picture above because it sums up how happy they are in the midst of fear. I wish I had this attitude more often. So, thank you Stuart and Candace - not only for your faces - but for your grace.

Stacy had responded to my post about doing some family portraits, so I went over to their lovely house in Whittier Mill and had a great time spending a couple hours taking some pictures and getting to know them! Thanks for the lovely faces, Ekmarks!

On Sunday, I went over to the Madlem's and we walked over to Howell Station to take some pictures. I love the way these came out. I had such a good time with them. We especially had some fun throwing leaves and running around. Thanks to the Madlem's for letting me photography their beautiful family!

I had mentioned wanting a tilt lens for a couple days - WELL - Kate, being the best girlfriend ever, got me a lens for my birthday that gives me the same results. She ordered it from Lens Baby - which is a really cool site - but it gives the same effect. This is one of the shots from my birthday dinner with my family.

I love it. You'll probably be seeing a lot more of me using this lens in the very near future. Thanks Kate!

I entered Studio 414's contest a month ago, and instead of $5 a photo, they raised it to $35 a photo. I entered in 3 photos and didn't win. They sent out an email and said since they raised the price, you could enter in 4 free photos if you enter 1 at regular price. I was really excited, so i decided to enter 5 photos. I ended up winning 2nd place!! The prize was $300. I had a week where I was feeling very uncreative and not so great about my photography and this was just the most encouraging thing to get a call from Kate saying "hey, you won 2nd place" - I still kind of can't believe it.

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Leaves changing colors always makes for a beautiful sight. I hope to get up to the mountains soon to take some pictures. But until then, me and a friend went out and took some pictures the other day, so i figured i'd post some. Enjoy.

After the shoot with the Park's, I went over to Ed Gordon's to hang out for a minute. While I was there, I couldn't help but snap a bunch of photos of their daughter, Amelia. She's adorable. Here's some my favorites.

Posting a bulletin on the Trinity board has really helped me with photography and with relationships within the church. This past Saturday, I had the priveledge of shooting Ben and Lucy Parks. She's about a week away from her due date, so they wanted to get some family portraits before their little boy comes.

It was a great time and it was wonderful to really get to know them and spend some time with them.

On Saturday I went to the DiCristina's for round two of family portraits. I love shooting that family. It's so calm and relaxed and it's nice to have people you know and love who are your subjects. It just makes things easier. It was also nice because it's the second time, and you have a chance to almost redo what you did the first time.

Their little daughter, Lily, is beautiful and it was nice to have her as an addition to the pictures as well as the world.

Thanks Mark and Monica for letting me do this again. Here's a couple from the shoot that I loved.

Today, Marty and I headed up to Twelve Oaks studio in Smyrna, GA and tracked drums for the upcoming Trinity Music Project. The project is based on communion and will have some of the newer songs we play and a couple of old ones that we re-arranged.
It went very well and were able to get some really great sounds. We went for a more dead, 70's drum sounds type of vibe. A little more laid back and less "big". It was a pleasure to work with Randy Bug and his heart for the project as well as being a great engineer.

Needless to say, it was a good day.

Tomorrow I find out if any of my photos won the contest. Not counting on it, but it would be nice to have that camera...

This past weekend I had the privilege of taking portraits of the Yoder family. I put up a bulletin on Trinity's board to take pictures of families in the church to help build my portfolio and to give families some pictures. It's a win-win situation. Anyways, the photo above was one of my favorites from the batch.

I am entering 5-10 photos in a contest to win a new camera. The camera is the new Canon 5D Mark II. It's about a $3000 camera. I looked at the past winners, and they're pretty great, but I figure there's no harm in trying. It's $5 a pictures and there's no limit to how many you can enter. I think i'm actually going to enter in the picture of Jill (above) in the children category. Wish me luck!

I think i'm going to enter in this one as well. It was one from Kate and I 's trip to Maine with my sister in law.
It's one of my personal favorites.

Today was my brother Ben's 33rd Birthday. I love my brother, a lot. He's an inspiration to me in many ways. His kindness and overall warmth is something I aspire to have sometime in my life. I got him the Radiohead box set after he asked if i could get him a couple Radiohead cd's that he hadn't actually owned in a long time. Many of you know how much i love that band so I figured - you might as well have all of it!

Needless to say it was a great night with family and a good time to catch up with my oldest brother.

I love you ben.

I decided to start a photoblog for a couple of reasons. One - I can tell stories behind photos that I can't on Flickr. Two - it helps document work I've done and gives potential clients a place to go to see some of my work in a more professional way.

Today I spent the majority of the day going over some composition rules and techniques at Bob's house. Bob has been a great mentor to me and is constantly filling me with knowledge. We went thru a batch of photos I took of the Yoder family this weekend (will post soon) and talked about what worked and what didn't and helped me see some of my constant errors and also helped me see what I do well.

I snapped the photo above after talking about depth of field, lines and vanishing points.
